Yanez is pursuing a Master's Degree in Fashion Industry Studies (MFIS) at Kent State University. Her goal as a researcher and designer is to advocate inclusivity in the fashion industry.
After earning a BFA in fashion design from the University of North Texas, Yanez signed on to work as a head designer for Tammy Dyer Designs, a luxury western wear company in Pilot Point, TX. Her contributions have grown her company's exposure in the equine industry, resulting in various features across well-known equine magazines.
Yanez was hired as an assistant patternmaker for CheerCo and CC Dancewear, where she helped develop and curate the 2022 Cheerleading.com catalog selection.
Counted among her many exhibitions and awards, Yanez has had work featured in UNT SHAC'S 2018 Enchanted Nights Fashion Show, in the 2018 Santa Reparata International School of Art's Summer Exhibition, and the 2019 International Textile and Apparel Association conference.
While working on her undergraduate degree, Mayra’s design research on womenswear and the Me-Too movement also received the prestigious Blanche Payne Award and the 2019 Claire Schaeffer Award for Outstanding Marketable Design at the annual International Textile and Apparel Association conference in Las Vegas, Nevada.
